Ride

Private boat from Stitinto to Fornelli (the harbour at the southern tip of Asinara island). We rent MTBs and bike all the way to the northern end of the island (Cala d'Oliva). They recommend it as most of the island is a nature reserve and is uninhabited after the WWI prisons closed. The northern tip of the island is also the only place to buy food and drinks.

The trip is 20-22 km each way with some hills. It was over 30 degrees without shade.

On our ride we see donkeys everywhere. Most are grey but some are white. The practice segregation. Asinara is famous for their population of albino donkeys.

At Cal d'Oliva we take a long break and eat traditional Sardinian pasta: Fregula. As well as a panini. And an ice cream.

On our way back we stop by a cosmetics store that makes products from local ingredients. (Don't know why there's a cosmetics store on an uninhabited island).

After the store we drop by a turtle rehabilitation center where we're introduced to Nikita (15y). She had a part of her body damaged by a boat propeller. Another turtle had lost a leg due to a plastic bag. Another had brain damage and just floats around.
